REPORTS TO: Higher command levels as assigned SUPERVISES: Non-supervisory position
BASIC FUNCTION:
To preserve public peace, protect life and property, prevent crime, enforce all laws and ordinances of which the Department takes cognizance. To be involved in community relations and specialized work.
ESSENTIAL AND RELATED FUNCTION STATEMENTS–Essential and other
important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Patrols an assigned area for the prevention and detection of crime and the enforcement of laws, regulations and ordinances.
- Responds as dispatched to scenes of disorder, disaster, or crime to take appropriate
- Investigates and reports crime, accidents, offenses, and damage to
- Makes
- Prepares cases and evidence for trial and appears in court as
- Participates in community relations
- Processes and serves warrants and subpoenas, compiles identification data, performs related tasks as required, not inconsistent with the attainment of departmental
- Communicate effectively with merchants, businesses, and citizens identifying problem areas or
- Provide a sense of security for businesses and citizens in the
- Safely and effectively operate a police vehicle according to the departmental and EVO policy (skills and pursuit courses).
- Effectively utilize lethal and nonlethal weapons within departmental guidelines. Related Functions:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Sufficient education, training and/and or experience equivalent to two years of college preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include effecting arrest, subduing resisting individuals, chasing clean subjects, running, jumping, walking, crouching or crawling during emergency operations, moving equipment and injured/deceased persons, climbing stairs/ladders, performing life-saving and rescue procedures, walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, and operating assigned equipment and
- Ability to effectively deal with personal danger which may include exposure to armed/dangerous persons, dangerous animals, communicable diseases, hazards of emergency driving, hazards associated with traffic control and working in and near traffic, and natural and man-made
- Ability to maintain effective audiovisual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, and operating assigned equipment and
- Ability to maintain mental capacity which allows the compatibility to exercise sound judgment and rational thinking under dangerous circumstances, evaluate various options and alternatives and choose an appropriate and reasonable course of action, and demonstrate intellectual capabilities during training and testing
Special Requirements:
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License at the time of

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working in emergency field situations; work in confined spaces; work in intense life-threatening conditions; exposure to dangerous persons, firearms, bodily fluids, fumes, moving objects, and noise; running, jumping, walking, crawling, kneeling, climbing, stooping and moderate lifting; visual, auditory, and speech capabilities required; work in inclement weather conditions; may work irregular work hours.
